Cheeseman Park Denver 50th Anniversary Photoshoot | J + B
Reaching the milestone of 50 years of marriage is a rare and beautiful accomplishment, deserving of a celebration that honors the enduring bond between two individuals. Recently, I had the privilege of documenting the love story of Bob and Jo through a heartwarming photoshoot held at the picturesque Cheesman Park in Denver. It was am overcast day but the pavilion in the center of the park provided the shelter. Not to mention it’s beautiful stone columns served as the backdrop for the photoshoot. We meandered casually around exchanging stories about life and love.
The idea for the anniversary photoshoot stemmed from a thoughtful gesture by their son, who wanted to commemorate his parents' milestone with a special gift. He had seen a photoshoot his parents did at Cheeseman several decades ago and selected the location as a nostalgic and sentimental place to commemorate their anniversary. All this was a surprise to Bob and Jo until they got an email coordinating what was the best date and time with me. Their son originally sent me one of the images from a shoot they had done there and we thought it would be fun to recreate the image of then and now.
Capturing the Essence of Their Relationship:
This shoot was a challenge for me as I typically have couples who are newly engaged or getting married. So the dynamic of a couple who has a more mature relationship required a different set of skills from me to capture. As we embarked on the photoshoot, my goal was to capture the essence of Bob and Jo's relationship without forcing any poses or faking anything. We really sat around and got to know one another. We exchanged stories and talked about interests, adventures, and life in general. It’s obvious they have had a lifetime together so the the tenderness, the shared glances, and the profound connection they shared was sitting right there in front of me and didn’t require any overly forced posing.
A Legacy of Love: As the sun began to set and we concluded the photoshoot, I felt privileged to have been a part of Bob and Jo's special day. Their love story is a testament to the power of commitment, patience, and laughter. To celebrate their upcoming anniversary I hope they are able to share some of these images and surround themselves by loved ones.
